Week One Blog Post: My Introductory Blog Post

 

    Hello there! My name is Gabrielle Sparro but you can call me Gabby. I am a senior mathematics major born and raised in Levittown, New York. This is the first time I have ever owned an official blog, (well, as long as you do not could my Tumblr blog).

I am a very passionate person. As in, I have a lot of things I am passionate about. I love watching anime and adult cartoons. So much so that I am the secretary of Xavier University's Anime Club. I have always had a love for cartoons since I was a toddler. Animation has an amazing way of telling the story through movement, voice acting, and fast-moving action. I will always be a child at heart which means I enjoy things like going to an amusement park, hanging out with my friends, and collecting stuffed animals. I am always of the belief that if something gives you joy, you should not worry about what other people might think. My favorite form of self-expression is Cosplay. Cosplay is an art form where a person, known as a cosplayer, dresses as a character from a show or movie. It gives me the freedom to live through someone else. Cosplaying makes me more body confident, more creative, and more comfortable behind a camera. It is also just a fun hobby to have. My passions make me who I am.
My experience with podcasting is very little. I have been recommended podcasts by friends but have never gotten around to listen to them. I am the kind of person who does not get into things right away. I always put it off. I have only listened to one episode of an official podcast. It was in my friend's car and he was the driver so by social convention, I had to listen. I do not remember the name of the podcast but it was hosted by three brothers talking about anything that came to life. I hope this class will introduce me to a podcast that I will get addicted to.
That is not the only thing I hope to get out of this class. One of my passions is writing. I write mostly fanfiction. I like take pre-established characters and putting them in situations that I can only come up with. I have been doing it since I was in high school and have no plans of stopping. To be completely honest, I thought that this class would be somewhere in that area. That is why I signed up for the class as a fun "I need three more credits for the semester" class. Knowing what the class is now, I am still interested. Sound writing is something I never heard about before. I always enjoy learning about new subjects and the class allows me to work on my writing. Plus, the professor seems like a nice guy so the class will be fun.
I can happily say that I know much more about digital technology than I do podcasting. And no, I do not just mean that I have a laptop and a cell phone. Due to cosplay, I have worked with a digital camera, and my phone camera. I take pictures and videos to share my cosplays to the world on my Instagram and TikTok. I use the editing feature in TikTok to edit my videos. I have edit photos in photoshop for my Photography I class. Unfortunately, that is the extent of my editing skills. I hope this class can teach me to be better.
I hope you have a good mental picture of who I am and let this mark the end of the beginning of my blog life.

    That is really cool that you have experience with digital technology. For me, coming into this class, I have only ever listened to podcasts, never made one. I have no experience in editing audio, recording audio or creating audio that is something worth listening to. I too hope to get more out of this class than what I have already done.

Week 14 Blog Post 2/2: That's All Folks!

     Wow, I cannot believe this. This is my final blog post. It seems like it was only yesterday that I was writing my first blog post to introduce myself. This has been a wild ride and I am so happy with all the work that I have done.      But we are not done yet. I still have two more episodes to go! I posted my first episode at about 5:45 pm on Tuesday. However, that was only because I had a meeting until 5:00 pm after class so I wasn't able to finish editing until then. The first episode turned out better than I imagined. I have to thank Abigail and TJ for that. Blog Post Week 9: Sounds of Silence

          Silence is an interesting concept in podcasts. The whole point of podcasts is that you hear it. You can't see the podcast host/performer so they have to convey their emotions and character through the sound. So how can a podcast use silence then? When first thinking about silence, I could not put how it was used in words. Then I saw this quote by  Heidi McKee:   “silence traces noise and noise traces silence in such an interleaving that there cannot, really, ever be a separation, hence the importance of discussions of silence in any discussions of sound”. It is like night and day, chocolate chip cookies and milk; you cannot have one without the other. This article as a whole illustrates that silence has no set use for it. Sure, you can use it the most common way, to create tension, but you can also use it to make jokes or transition into another scene. Blog Post Week 8: Remediations and AUs

      Whenever a professor asks if the class knows the meaning of something, I tend to nod my head no. I like to get clear definitions in case the professor has a different definition. Though, when Dr. Gerding asked if anyone heard of remediation, my no was genuine. The word itself did not even seem familiar to me. However, once I learned what remediation actually is, it turned out that I have been using remediation for years.       One way you can use remediation is by taking another creator's creation and transforming it into something original. Normal people probably have a smart or sophisticated example of this. However, I myself am strange and unusual. So the first thing I thought of was fanfiction.
