Blog Post Week #5: Procrastination and Princes

Have you ever procrastinated? If you said no, you are lying. Everyone procrastinates, there is an entire TEDtalk about it. When most people procrastinate, it is usually things that they do not enjoy. A big paper or their senior research project. I am guilty of this too but I take my procrastination up another level. I procrastinate on things that I know I probably will enjoy. People, or the YouTube algorithm, will recommend something to me that touches all of my interests at one time and my response will always be "Yeah, I'll watch it eventually". I am the most stubborn person I know. I need to be forced to sit and watch something new. This also applies to music but especially podcasts.

For three months straight, every other ad that I would get on Spotify would be for The Two Princes. It is a fantasy non-fiction story about two gay princes with one of the princes being voice by someone I have seen on Broadway. You would think I would have clicked the link right away and listened to the entire thing. I did not. I would always say to myself: "Oh, that's cool" then continue to listen to music. I could not force myself to listen to it. It seemed like there would be no way I would listen to the song.

Then I signed up for Digital Writing to fill out three more credits since there was yet again no Creative Writing Class available. The second I hear that I had to listen to a podcast, I knew this would be the perfect chance to listen to The Two Princes. I anxiously waited for the podcast to be approved, and once it was, I binged the entire series in two days. It was as good as I thought it would be.

The lesson from this is to just try things as soon as you can, you probably will like it. I will definitely learn that lesson, eventually. However, not today, probably tomorrow...

  1. Hi Gabby,

I love your writing style! Your writing reads more like a story than a blog post or a class assignment, and I love that. I think it definitely makes your podcast unique and fun. I've procrastinated on big assignments and other stuff in my life too, especially stuff that makes me stressed. But I don't stay that way for long because my anxiety keeps nagging me to do the thing until I eventually give in. What do you do to make yourself stop procrastinating?
